About Me
Hi, my name is Lauren and I am a clinical student intern currently completing my MSW at UNC. As a therapist, I approach clients holistically, in a way that considers multiple facets of their life. Everyone has their own unique experiences, intersecting identities, personalities, values, and priorities that deserve to be heard and honored. This means that fulfillment or “success” will look very different for different people—there is no one blueprint for self-empowerment.
As someone who lives with ADHD and chronic illness, I know what it is like to feel different and to struggle to function within systems that are not designed with your needs in mind. That’s why, as a therapist, my priority is to ensure that I truly understand your individual wants and needs in depth so we can create a therapy space that works for YOU.
The world is full of so many different responsibilities and distractions competing for our attention, making it easy to spend most of our days focusing only on the lives of others, neglecting our relationship with ourselves. When we lose sight of who we are and what we want, we can become blind to how our behavior patterns create dysfunction in our lives, leaving us feeling unsatisfied, depressed, or overwhelmed. Because each of us is so unique, sometimes personal time away from all of the “noise” is needed to truly get in touch with our individuality and inform the path toward a more authentic, self-determining life. Therapy is that one time that is always guaranteed to be dedicated exclusively to you. It helps us connect with ourselves and get unstuck by providing a supportive space to process thoughts and emotions from past experiences and take steps to improve our well being going forward.
My background includes work with individuals navigating issues related to ADHD and other forms of neurodivergence, chronic illness, loved ones or family members of someone struggling with substance use, and childhood trauma, but I am also passionate about working with anyone experiencing low self-esteem, perfectionism, or complicated relationship dynamics. True to my value of addressing individual needs, I take an eclectic, collaborative, client-centered approach based on the needs of each client. I use an anti-oppressive, anti-racist, LGBTQIA+ affirming perspective aimed at honoring your personal identities and helping you navigate any societal obstacles that may come with them. I believe everyone deserves to have space and time dedicated just for them, and I will be there to help you foster authentic understanding, connection, fulfillment, and joy in your life—whatever that looks like for you.
